Neck Pain
There are several reasons why neck pain may occur and vary from person to person. It may be one or both sides of the neck, base of the skull, across the top of the shoulder blades and even into the jaw.
Pain can also vary in severity, from a constant dull ache to sharp and stabbing pains. Additional symptoms may include, but are not limited to:Â
- Headaches
- Numbness or tingling
- Arm weakness
- Muscle stiffness and tightness in the upper body
- Discomfort and pain when remaining in the same position for too long
- Loss of sleep due to pain and discomfort
- Inability to fully stand up or sit up straight
Neck pain is commonly caused by posture related changes, degenerative conditions, or direct injury to the surrounding structures.Â
How We Treat
Treatment for neck pain will most likely consist of hands-on manual therapy. Using special techniques to improve the joint range of motion, decrease muscle tension and restore normal function. This may include neck manipulation, traction, massage, and acupuncture.
Where treatment is not possible, other options will be discussed and any appropriate referrals may be made with your consent.Â
